This blog, presented in Russian and English language formats, is dedicated to providing monitoring-based facts, analysis, commentary and opinion, as well as receiving responsive comments from the public, concerning the corruption and dysfunction of rule of law in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and elsewhere in the former Soviet Union.
We give prime emphasis to two indices that we find especially useful in tracking and assessing the breakdown of the justice system:
- the extent of religious persecution and discrimination; and
- the virtual impunity of antisemitic and xenophobic violence and propaganda, i.e., hate crimes.
We are concerned as well about incidents of governmental intimidation of minority religious confessions, of independent journalistic “truth tellers,†of peaceful political protest and political party organizational efforts, of human rights NGO leadership, and of business interests committed to market democracy and transparency. This blog considers all such incidents to be important evidence of the failure of rule of law, the reform of which is essential to guaranteeing all human rights and democracy.
It is expected that this initiative will expand both the dissemination of information and a responsive audience far beyond that achieved by any one NGO acting alone. It is our hope that it will serve our interests, and yours.
So, Welcome!
Join us.
