A student at Volgograd State University was knocked unconscious by a group of neo-Nazis, who beat him for accidentally bumping into one of them, according to a November 16, 2007 article in the local newspaper
Volgogradskaya Pravda. The youth, identified only by his first name Anton, was walking to class when he accidentally bumped into a young man whom he described as a "skinhead." Seven or eight neo-Nazis then
attacked Anton, knocking him to the ground and kicking him until he lost consciousness. When he awoke, Anton noticed that among several other injuries, someone had carved a swastika on his chest.
The article made no mention of Anton's ethnicity or membership in any anti-fascist organization (the usual victims of neo-Nazi violence), making it likely that he is an ethnic Russian who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. A local police official was quoted in the article saying that neo-Nazis do exist in the city, but that police actions alone are not sufficient to address the problem.
