Algeria's Ambassador to Ukraine Mokaddem Bafdal believes it is unsafe for Algerian students to come to Ukraine to study.

Bafdal expressed this belief in an interview with Ukrainian News. Algerians, juts like other Arab, African, and Asian nationalities, are subjected to aggression. Thus is the reason that there are not many Algerian students in Ukraine, and it is the reason that I do welcome the idea of Algerian students coming to Ukraine to study,» he said.

According to him, cases of aggression against citizens of Algeria have been registered in Kyiv, Odesa, and Kharkiv and that the most recent case took place in Kharkiv.

At the same time, he said there was not a tendency for the aggression to increase. One cannot say that the attacks are systematic. We constantly warn our citizens. We telephone them, we ask about their conditions. I have to say that most are not complaining,» Bafdal said. Moreover, he said that the Algerian embassy has called on Algerian citizens to be careful in order to avoid more serious consequences. I believe that the issue of security is fundamental. There are presently about 60 students in Ukraine that came privately at their own risks. There were about 20 students in Kyiv last year, now only two remain. They were here for less than one year and left because of the living and study conditions,» he said.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Ukrainian Science and Education Ministry has expressed concern about cases of aggression against foreign students by certain Ukrainian youth representatives.
