The case in Darnytsa

On 11th March in Darnytsa the court will decide on a verdict for the perpetrators of the murder of Nigerian citizen Konong Mievi Godi who was stabbed to death on 25th October 2006.

Toughening responsibility for extremism, xenophobia, antisemitism, racial and religious intolerance

Parliamentary deputy Hennadii Moskal of the Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense bloc faction is proposing that the Verkhovna Rada toughen responsibility for extremism, xenophobia, antisemitism, racial and religious intolerance.

This follows from draft law No. 1325 entitled "On amending some Ukrainian legislative acts (concerning toughening responsibility for acts of extremism, xenophobia, antisemitism, racial and religious intolerance)", registered with the Rada on January 11.

The bill moves along with extending Article 173 of the Administrative Violations Code with clauses introducing administrative responsibility for such delicts.

According to the bill, acts of extremism, xenophobia, antisemitism, racial and religious intolerance are penalized with fines of three to seventy personal exemptions, correctional labour of up to two months with deducing 20% of wages, administrative arrest of up to fifteen days.

African national dies in Kyiv of stab injuries

According to information from the African Center, on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at around 5-5.30 in the evening, Victor Gbenda-Charles was attacked by a group of people in Obolon district in Kyiv. He died of multiple stab injuries inflicted on him during the attack. Victor Gbenda-Charles came to Ukraine as a student in 1991 from Sierra Leone, and was later registered as a refugee, according to the information available as of now. He was between 38-40 years old and was working in a market in Obolon district. He is survived by his Ukrainian wife and child.
