On May 5 a court in Kyiv sentenced four individuals of about 20 years of age to 13 years in prison each for beating a Korean national to death in 2007. According to 1+1 TV, this was one of the very few sentences that have been delivered in the country to punish xenophobia. The four refused to plead guilty, even going so far as to make racist remarks in the courtroom. They plan to appeal.

The Darnytsky District Court on Friday issued its verdict over the killing of Nigerian national Kunyon Myevi Hodi* in Kyiv near the metro station "Poznyaki" on 25 October 2006. Of the group of four people whom the criminal investigation unit believed involved in the attack or present at it, one appeared as a witness and one came under an amnesty as being underage.

On 17 April 2008, Darnytskyj distirct court of Kyiv announced a verdict on a case of Kunuon Mievi Godi's murder in Kyiv on 25 October 2006.

Out of three accused, one - Yermolin - has been amnistied as an underage about a month ago. Out of two remainig, one - Oleksandr Shepitko - has been accused of murder and racism (art.115 part 2 and art.161 part 3 accordingly). On the first one he's been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, on the second - 4 years. Using system of partiall adding of the sentences art.70 of Criminal Code), he's got 11 years in total.
Another one, Yana Kamlyuk, has bee accused of racism and sentenced to 4 years 6 months imprisonment (art.161 part 2).  They've got 15 days to appeal against the sentence

On 27 March an Indian student has been badly beaten by football fans and taken to the hospital now; his life is not in danger.  According to local newspaper "20 minutes", attack took place on 3 April, and was followed by the attack on the student hostel where foreign students live: http://20minut.ua/news/120580

В Житомире совершен акт вандализма на еврейском кладбище, сообщает УНИАН. В частности, сообщение об этом в житомирских СМИ распространили представители еврейской общины. По их данным, в ночь с 15 на 16 апреля неизвестные сожгли домик над могилой цадика раввина Аарона из Житомира, которого считают учеником основателя хасидизма рабби Исраэля Баал Шем-Това. Еврейская община заявляет о намерении обратиться в правоохранительные органы относительно расследования факта вандализма.

It was announce within the meeting of the Ukrainian experts with experts of Consultative Committee of the Framework convention on protection of national minorities rights which took place on 9 April 2008 in MinJust. The results of this visit will be summarized in the report in June 2008.

CE experts were informed about joint agreement of MinJust, MOI and SCNR to implement in Ukraine educational project on xenophobia and racism. This project will include several components. In particular - workshops for Ukrainian judges on racism legal determination.
